Ever since the election of 2008, politics in the United States have become an absolute joke. This joke has infected many, and so far has lasted 8 years. The biggest hit of the epidemic struck in 2015, when the 2016 presidential race kicked into gear. Is one of the biggest presidential races in history one of the biggest jokes ever?
2015 emerges, and the choices for each political party are limited. The two major candidates for the democratic party were Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. So basically the choices were: socialist or terrorist/liar. Americans chose the liar. The two major candidates for the republican party were Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. So basically the choices were: fake republican and supposed racist. Americans chose the supposed racist. It's the liar versus the supposed racist. Who will win the biggest joke of the century? American citizens claim to be discontent with the choices for president, yet they were the ones who casted their vote. Now they are the same people who are making constant jokes. #Kayne2020 #I'mwithhim #Hillaryforprison #I'mmovingtoCanada Sound familiar? Are the voters of the United States still stuck in high school? Seems like it to me. Because this race just appears to be one big popularity contest. Which candidate can dig deep enough to discover old facts about their competition? How much can I bribe the media to make my competition look worse? Does anyone even know what the policies for these two candidates are? Or did the citizens just vote aimlessly at whoever is the coolest? A common default to blame for this chaos are the founding fathers. It's not as if it's the founding fathers fault that two different parties emerged. It's like any situation, there's usually pro side and an anti or con side. All I know is that my generation is screwed. It's all due to the biggest epidemic of the century: The 2016 Presidential Race. ~Caroline Miller: AP Discussion Day Post

Many people are familiar with the "Lost Colony of Roanoke" but there is little to no one who truly knows what happened to the British colonists who mysteriously vanished only a few years after the colony was established. Hundreds of conspiracy theories suggest that disease and war were the culprits, however one theory stood out the most to our group as a form of technology, UFO abduction, was the most plausible cause of the disappearance of the colonists. To learn more about the different theories and why some of them are discredited, check our the Prezi we created below!
You may be wondering what's the significance of a colony that appears to have never existed? Well, Roanoke was Britain's first attempt at establishing a permanent settlement for economic motives rather than religious motives. Despite the lack of success in the large scheme of things, the devastation that occurred in Roanoke didn't stop the British from exploring the New World. In fact, the British successfully established the first permanent settlement of Jamestown in 1607 and later the colony of Pennsylvania was established later in 1681. Both of these "colonies" are still around today and without the existence and extinction of Roanoke perhaps the British may not have established Jamestown or Pennsylvania! #RoanokemorelikeRoNOWAYI'DEVERGOTHERE #spooky #coloniesevolving #majorkeyalert! #ufosmorelikeufGOOUTTAMYCOLONY The lever escapement was invented by Thomas Mudge, a horologist. During the late 1700s, the lever escapement was a big improvement in clocks and hand watches. This device made telling time much easier and more accurate. Thus, colonists were able to become more efficient in their means of production. When the colonies began using factory production, the first thing produced was clocks, Without the standardization of time, nothing would ever be produced efficiently. Without the lever escapement, we wouldn't have clocks, watches, timers, alarms, etc. We wouldn't be able to easily time the cooking of our mac and cheese without individually counting each second, we wouldn't be able to alarmed to wake up for school each morning, we wouldn't be able to tell the time quickly and easily, etc! Thanks Thomas Mudge for not burning my mac and cheese! #ThomasmorelikeThomYAAASSSS! #ThomasMuNCHINGONMAC'NCHEESE Sources: http://www.watchtime.com/reference-center/glossary/lever-escapement/ Below is a link for a Kahoot! to learn more about the lever escapement: For the period 1607-1754, we decided to make an Instagram account about the evolution of telescopes and how telescopes effected the history of the United States. Click the "Techy Telies" box below to view our Instagram account. You may ask yourself: what do telescopes even have to do with the history of the United States? Telescopes helped prove that planets orbit around the sun. ☀️ They also helped prove that the world was round and not flat. Thus travelers were not afraid to find a water route to Asia. So they sailed and sailed and they landed and discovered America! 🌎 Telescopes (referring to much more current times) helped astronauts get to the moon and learn about other planets. #spacerace #onesmallstepforman #onebigstepformankind Now the United States has technology on planets like, Mars, and we are learning much more about our galaxy! It's amazing how such a small piece of technology can do so much! #teleSCOPINGOUTPLANETS #highkeyfuturistic #teletubbiesmorelikeTECHYTELIES Sources:http://www.nasa.gov/audience/forstudents/9-12/features/telescope_feature_912.html, http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2009/07/telescopes/telescopes-interactive Written by: Skylar Harrison
In my opinion, we have not been living up to the ideals of our Constitution. For instance, in recent years, our Supreme Court has turned away from long-standing precedents. In an article, it says, "The Court has abandoned true judicial conservatism and systematically dishonored congressional intent." It also talks about the Ledbetter decision, which time-barred a victim of admitted discrimination for no fault of her own. In addition, as a second example, I don't believe that all men are created equal. For example, most immigrants are not given the same opportunities as others, thus in turn, all men aren't equal. In a second article, it talks about how men referred to sex rather than mankind. Is the United States living up to the Constitution? This question remains popular today in many political debates that are currently going on. A common response to this question is no. One of the principal ideals written in the Constitution is that, "all men are created equal." Yet, are all men created equal? Do all men have equal opportunities for success? Certain people believe that the male gender and the Caucasian race have more opportunities for success. That's where the terms "white supremacy", "white privilege", "social justice warriors", and "feminists". I do not believe in any of these terms, particularly "white supremacy", as all people do have equal opportunities. I am a white female, who has come from a fairly successful family. Both my parents are also white. My mother, a female, came from a middle class family and became an anesthesiologist. My father, a male, came from a middle class family as well. He became a business manager. Both came from middle class families, yet neither gender was given any privilege. It's simple, my mom worked harder and achieved what is considered a "better off job". Hard work, ladies and gentlemen, it isn't a difficult concept. Now is the time when people complain, "Well some families have more money than others..." Public education is free and colleges offer scholarships and financial aid. Whoever works the hardest has the better opportunity for success. That's the principle of capitalism and market economies. Whoever works the hardest gets the better payoff. Competition. It is all about the amount of work you put in. Look at Andrew Carnegie. He was a poor boy, who created one of the most successful industries in the nation, the steel industry. Another principle ideal stated in the Constitution is the separation of powers in the federal government. Each branch is supposed to have checks and balances in order to create separation of powers among the government. This ensures that no branch of government have no power power than the other. "The Bush Administration left a parade of horribles: grandiose views of executive power and executive privilege; politicized hiring and firing at the Department of Justice, with the work of that illustrious agency manipulated for political ends; political meddling at the Environmental Protection Agency that turned enforcement of our nation’s environmental laws over to the polluters; torture memos and other shameful national security opinions from the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel that are now the subject of disciplinary investigation. " So has there been a fair balance of power? I believe that their hasn't been. No laws are passed and nothing is agreed upon because certain branches are dominated by a certain political party. America has not cooperated like the Constitution intended it to. So in some respects, the United States has been living up to the Constitution, but is also hasn't. So is the Declaration of Independence meant to be a Declaration of Fairness? I guess that's just a idea created by the lazy people of the nation. Sources: https://www.brennancenter.org/analysis/living-our-constitution http://patch.com/pennsylvania/hellertown/has-america-lived-up-to-its-declaration "Democracy", "fairness", and "equality" are all words that come to mind when describing the government of the United States of America. We the people of the United States are all created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights. We the people obtain the right to contribute and improve the areas of our democratic government where we see fit, we possess the power to alter or abolish an inadequate government, and we obtain the strength to institute a completely new government.
The Constitution states that are men are created equal and possess the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As one of the most prominent lines of the Constitution, it has been neglected during the modern era, evident of the historic movement #BlackLivesMatter. The countless assassinations of black men have questioned the viability and validity of the Constitution. The #BlackLivesMatter organization take pride in who they are, vouch to protect the lives of other minorities, and work to better the lives of African Americans as well as instituting safety and publicizing the wrongs of white supremacy. Although the Constitution states that the people determine the actions of the government and the people possess the responsibility of appointing the individual best suited for the presidency, how many people actually fulfill that right? According to voting turnout statistics, of the 218,959,000 United States citizens eligible to vote only 146,311,000 people registered to vote, and of those 146,311,000 only 126,144,000 actually voted during the 2012 presidential election. What does this say about the "consent of the governed"? Do the citizens of the United States actually exercise their right to contribute towards the political future of their country? The underwhelming 57.5% of eligible voters who actually voted during the presidential election fulfill the wishes of the Constitution, but the remaining 43.5% diminishes the possibility of a more "constitutional" country. We the people of the United States live in a country praised for the freedom and equality it bestows, but under the red, white, and blue plastered upon the nation lies the injustice, prejudice, and ignorance of the American people.
