It was August 3, 2014 of my freshman year. I, Skylar Harrison, was nervously awaiting to receive a letter from the past week's volleyball tryouts. I had a big name to live up to. I came from a very successful volleyball club, where all the girls were bound to make varsity. My coach had big expectations for me, and I was determined to achieve them. So, the tryout was over. All the girls were taking off their gear as we were awaiting the arrival of the coaches. The coaches came in with a big stack of envelopes. My heart was racing and I was sweating. Each girl was getting called up one by one to receive their letter. Finally, my name was called, and I hurried to take my letter. Hands shaking, heart beating hard, I opened the letter as quickly as possible. My eyes burst out of my head as I read, "Congratulations, Skylar Harrison, you've made Varsity." In that moment, I knew this was the proudest moment of my life.
Many things attributed to my proudest moment. For example, Broad Run's Varsity Volleyball Team was in need of a middle hitter, my current position. Also, many seniors had graduated and left several spots open for aspiring Varsity players such as me. In addition, many of the girls trying out for that fall season didn't play my position, giving me a greater advantage for making the team. Finally, my hard work and gathered experience from the two years gave me the confidence and skills to excel during tryouts and allow me to earn this coveted spot on Broad Run's Varsity Volleyball Team of 2014.
